Japanese Terminology

Japanese language plays a large role in many traditional martial arts classes.  Often understanding what the Japanese name of a technique means helps the practitioner to understand, breakdown and understand it better.

From the names of techniques to equipment to dojo etiquette, there is a wealth of vocabulary to get your head around.  At LTMA we expect your vocabulary to improve and expand gradually as you grade through your belts.  With this in mind we've provided some pages to help you learn and translate a lot of the terminology commonly used in martial arts and Ju Jitsu classes.  Students from other disciplines will also find this helpful.
